Alabama-based Maynard Cooper & Gale and Carolinas-based Nexsen Pruet have announced a merger that will create a law firm with more than 550 lawyers.

The firm will be known as Maynard Nexsen after the combination, effective April 1, according to a Jan. 5 press release. It will have 23 offices in 10 states—including California and New York—and in Washington, D.C.

The merger will make Maynard Nexsen “an Am Law 200 contender,” with combined revenues that would put the firm in the No. 118 spot, according to Law.com.

Jeff Grantham, a Maynard managing shareholder, will be CEO and managing shareholder of the merged firm. Leighton Lord, chairman at Nexsen Pruet, will be president and chief strategy officer. Greg Curran, chairman at Maynard, will be chairman of the board and head of client relations.
