Nearly one quarter of law students at the UCLA School of Law received disability accommodations granting them extra time for exams, according to records obtained by the California Post.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, 308 of the law school’s 1,374 students received extra time on exams. The following year, in 2024-2025, 323 students—or about 24% of the entire law school population—had those accommodations, according to a public records request by recent graduate Andrew Gomez-Blumenfeld.

According to Gomez-Blumenfeld, the system is being increasingly exploited to gain a competitive edge. Some students received as much as 150% more time on law school exams, which can take three or four hours.

Most of the students receiving extra time were JD students, with very few granted to those in master’s programs.

The New York Post has the story.
