NYC police say they are building an 'actual case' against producer Harvey Weinstein

New York City police are building a case against Harvey Weinstein based on allegations by an actress who says the Hollywood producer raped her seven years ago.

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said at a news conference on Friday that the police are gathering evidence, report the New York Times, Fox News and ABC News.

“We have an actual case going forward,” he said.

If Weinstein were in New York City and the incident was recent “we would go right away and make the arrest, no doubt,” Boyce said. “But we’re talking about a seven-year-old case. And we have to move forward gathering evidence.”

The actress was identified as Paz de la Huerta, who appeared in the television series “Boardwalk Empire” in 2010 and 2011.

Her story was credible and detailed, and police have corroborated part of the account, Boyce said.
