NYC to pay $6.25M to man jailed almost 25 years despite out-of-state alibi
Convicted of a New York City murder despite strong alibi evidence that showed he was on vacation in Florida at the time, Jonathan Fleming spent nearly 25 years in prison before he was released last year.
Now the financial struggles that followed his release will soon be over: The city announced Tuesday that it has agreed to pay $6.25 million to resolve a pending claim over his wrongful conviction, according to the Associated Press and the New York Daily News.
It appears from news coverage that a pending or potential claim by Fleming against the state of New York may still be unresolved.
