The Ohio attorney general has filed a lawsuit against a Cincinnati-area retailer linked with the 1990s TV show Seinfeld, alleging that the company took customers’ money without delivering merchandise or providing refunds.
J. Peterman operated a store and warehouse specializing in distinctive clothing and accessories, as well as Territory Ahead through a website, according to a story by WKRC.
Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson and his office have accused J. Peterman of violating Ohio consumer protection laws. J. Peterman, the suit alleges, failed to fulfill orders, refused or delayed refunds, and cut off communications with customers seeking help. The suit was filed in August.
J. Peterman became widely known through Seinfeld, which portrayed a fictionalized version of the company and its founder, John Peterman, who was described as the eccentric boss of Elaine Benes—one of the four main characeters—on the sitcom.
The websites for J. Peterman and Territory Ahead currently state that they are no longer accepting orders, according to WKRC.
