Ropes & Gray plans to launch a new office in London early next year, headed by two former finance partners at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

This will be the fourth new international office that Ropes & Gray has opened in the past two years, as the more than 1,000-attorney Boston-based law firm notes in a press release. Two of the firm’s senior United States partners who specialize in private equity matters, David Chapin and Newcomb Stillwell, are expected to play a critical role in establishing the new London office, which will be headed by banking lawyers Maurice Allen and Mike Goetz.

Allen and Goetz joined Freshfields in March of last year, as the magic circle firm announced at the time in a press release. The two previously worked for years for White & Case, where they co-headed the banking and capital markets London practice group. Allen was also in charge of White & Case’s global bank finance practice group.

“Ropes & Gray is an elite firm with an extraordinary platform in the global equity and debt marketplace,” says Allen in his new firm’s press release. “Drawing on our familiarity with the sophisticated London finance market, Mike and I will bring our wealth of experience to bear on behalf of the firm’s clients. This is a terrific fit for us and the firm.”
