A special grand jury investigating interference in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia concluded that some witnesses may have lied under oath during their testimony, according to parts of its report released Thursday.

The grand jury recommended that the Fulton County, Georgia, district attorney seek appropriate indictments for perjury where the evidence is compelling.

The report also found no widespread election fraud.

“We find by a unanimous vote that no widespread fraud took place in the Georgia 2020 presidential election that could result in overturning that election,” the grand jury said in an introduction to the report.

The Washington Post and the New York Times have coverage.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis will make the decision on whether to seek charges for perjury or other possible crimes. The grand jury was investigating whether former President Donald Trump or others violated Georgia law by seeking to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Trump had called Georgia’s secretary of state after the election and asked whether he could “find” 11,780 votes, which would change Trump’s loss in Georgia to a win.

Judge Robert McBurney of Fulton County had ordered release of the section on perjury, as well as the report’s introduction and conclusion. The released sections proved to be short.

Still sealed are findings on who should or should not be indicted and on what charges.
