A Texas judge has been suspended after being indicted on a third-degree felony charge of aggravated perjury.
The Sept. 21 grand jury indictment alleges that Judge Robert Jenkins Franklin, a justice of the peace for Rains County, Texas, knowingly made false statements under oath during a court hearing about child support, according to a story from Law.com.
The alleged false statements were related to his involvement in property deals for the Franklin Family Trust and could have affected his child support obligations.
After reviewing the indictment, the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct decided that Franklin should be suspended without pay as of Sept. 30.
Franklin did not respond to Law.com’s request for comment.
