Winston & Strawn Litigator Says He Jumped to Boutique Partly Because of Its Alternative Fees

Winston & Strawn litigator Thomas Wiegand has jumped to a newer boutique law firm that favors alternative fees.

Wiegand will be joining long-time friend Steve Molo, who co-founded the boutique firm MoloLamken in 2009, the Am Law Daily reports. Molo and Wiegand practiced together at Winston & Strawn for 15 years before Molo moved on to Shearman & Sterling and then MoloLamken.

Wiegand talked to the Am Law Daily about his reason for the move. He cited the friendship with Molo, as well as the fee structure. “Clients have been asking more frequently and more consistently to get away from the hourly fee and for fees structured in a way that makes sense,” he told the publication. “Big firms are willing to talk about that, but it doesn’t seem to be happening nearly as often as it does as MoloLamken, where it’s being done all the time.
