Forklift Accident Sets Off Chain of Destruction That Delays Howrey Wind-Down
A bankruptcy trustee says a fatal forklift accident at a Washington, D.C.-area warehouse is delaying the wind-down of Howrey.
In a report (PDF) filed Monday in bankruptcy court in the Northern District of California, trustee Allan B. Diamond says a chain of destruction resulted when a forklift hit a storage rack and collapsed much of the roof of the facility, killing a worker. That is preventing him from moving as quickly as planned to return law firm documents to former clients or otherwise dispose of them, the Wall Street Journal’s Bankruptcy Beat blog reports.
The June 28 accident at the Recall facility in Landover, Md., has put the fate of 60,000 boxes of stored Dewey documents into limbo, Diamond wrote.
“Recall is still determining the scope of damage and when, if ever, the documents will be recovered,” he stated, explaining that he hopes to resolve the document issue completely by March.
