Lawrence Zieger hasn’t been in his Wisconsin law office much this year.

From Jan. 5 until Feb. 23 he was held in Milwaukee County following his arrest on charges of violating a domestic abuse injunction and disorderly conduct, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Then he was sent to Cook County, Ill., which had a case against him for violating his probation on a conviction in 2009 for battery and resisting arrest concerning a 2007 dispute over a cigarette lighter with a Transportation Security Administration screener at O’Hare Airport in Chicago. Sentenced to 45 days and given credit for the time he had already served, Ziegler was released last week.

The Wisconsin case is still pending. However, anyone who checks Ziegler’s lawyer licensing status will be told simply that the more than 30-year practitioner is an attorney in good standing. Criminal record information is not included in the public Wisconsin lawyer website listing maintained by attorney disciplinary authorities, the article explains.

However, attorneys must self-report such information to legal ethics authorities and, if it is deemed to impact upon their ability to practice law, disciplinary action may be taken.

Ziegler and his lawyer declined to comment when contacted by the newspaper.
