A California patent attorney accused of offering to pay Colma police so “this could all go away” after being pulled over on suspicion of drunken driving was convicted Thursday of bribery.

Richard Chae, now 39, was previously convicted of misdemeanor driving under the influence concerning the Feb. 2010 incident, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

He was accused of initially offering the police $900, then upping the ante to $5,000 and $35,000 when the money was refused.

Chae is scheduled to be sentenced in August.
