Employees of an Indiana law office called police yesterday about a suspicious package. After it was taken by a bomb squad robot to a nearby parking lot, X-rayed and subjected to an unsuccessful detonation effort, however, it turned out to contain a large raw turnip.

The vegetable had been mailed, in a gift bag, to attorney Mark GiaQuinta of Haller & Colvin in Fort Wayne, reports the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette. Its article includes a photo of the package being carried by the robot out of the building and of the turnip in a box.

Although GiaQuinta is president of the board of Fort Wayne Community Schools, “the delivery was connected to his law practice, not the district,” the newspaper writes. It does not explain whether the gift was intended to be a joke, or who the sender was.
