Embattled Judge’s Husband Pleads Guilty in her Beating

The husband of embattled Las Vegas Judge Elizabeth Halverson has pleaded guilty to one count of battery with a deadly weapon for beating her with a frying pan.
Edward Halverson could be sentenced from three to 10 years in prison, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. Halverson entered an Alford plea, which does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence for a conviction, the story says.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped a charge of attempted murder. Halverson told a Las Vegas judge on Friday that he has no recollection of the beating, according to the Review-Journal account. Elizabeth Halverson was hospitalized for two weeks after the attack.
Edward Halverson will be sentenced on Dec. 12.
Elizabeth Halverson lost a primary battle for re-election. She is facing ethics charges that she mistreated employees, fell asleep on the bench and improperly communicated with jurors.
