Awaiting trial on criminal charges related to a fatal alcohol-related automobile accident, Erika Scoliere had been ordered not to drink or to be around others who were consuming alcohol, as a condition of her bail.
However, the 20-year-old apparently not only did so but had her drinking exploits chronicled on Facebook, according to the Chicago Tribune.
"It appears the defendant is having a grand old time drinking tequila," said Kane County Judge Thomas Mueller during a Wednesday hearing, looking through copies of the pictures. "Erika passed out in my bed. Ha Ha," the judge continued, quoting one of the photo captions.
He ordered that Scoliere be fitted yesterday with an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet, at a cost to the defendant of $15 per day, the newspaper recounts. Scoliere, who is facing charges of reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence in the auto accident case, left the courtroom in tears.
The article doesn't explain how police in South Elgin, where the 2007 accident occurred, found out about the Facebook photos of Scoliere.
