Penn Students See Humor in Layoffs: ‘Dissolving Firm Offers 3L Partnership’

Apparently inspired by widespread news of layoffs at real law firms, law students at the University of Pennsylvania have highlighted some humorous aspects of a sad situation in a satirical "news" publication.
The initial issue of Goat's Milk (PDF), a self-described underground law review, leads with an article that indicates students are blaming the disastrous economy for bad grades, bad luck in getting dates and even a favorite football team's recent loss.
However, an inside story provides some relatively good news about a lucky 3L: A law firm in San Francisco has offered her a partnership by text message, immediately after announcing its dissolution to the Above the Law blog in a written statement containing the usual bromides (it was "a difficult decision," outplacement assistance is being offered, etc.).
"I know I'll have to kick in the $75K to buy in, and that my salary will be some share of zero profits, but I think it's totally worth it to be able to put this on my resume," the partner-material 3L breathlessly tells Goat's Milk. "I mean, I thought I would have to bust my ass for eight years, but here I am, a partner, and I haven't even accumulated all of my pro bono hours yet!"
