Weil Gotshal & Manges has announced that it is opening an office in Beijing. The office will be the firm's 20th internationally.

It will be headed by Steven Xiang, who presently is in charge of the firm's China practice and works in its Shanghai office, reports Legal Week. The new Beijing office is expected to focus initially on mergers and acquisitions and private equity work.

“This is a natural step forward for our law firm," firm chairman Stephen Dannhauser tells the legal publication. "Beijing is a market we've long contemplated as a necessary complement to Hong Kong and Shanghai and, as with all of our new office openings, we decided to act based on our ability to deliver to clients the same level of skill and service they have come to expect throughout our firm."

The New York-based firm also recently announced plans to open an office in Dubai.
