WilmerHale partner David Ogden is said to be President-elect Barack Obama’s top choice to become deputy attorney general.

Ogden is heading the Justice Department transition team for Obama.

A Washington lawyer close to the transition told Legal Times that Ogden is all but certain to be named second in command at the department. Ogden was head of the Justice Department’s civil division in the Clinton administration and was also chief of staff to then-Attorney General Janet Reno. He is co-chair of WilmerHale’s government and regulatory litigation practice group.

The practice group’s other co-chair, Randolph Moss, told Legal Times that Ogden will complement attorney general nominee Eric Holder. "The fact that Eric brings enormous expertise on criminal matters creates a nice balance," Moss said.
