Eleven major corporations have agreed to provide $30 million in funding for a new Inclusion Initiative intended to encourage companies to do business with law firms owned by women and minorities and are urging other companies to get involved, too.

The venture may also benefit the corporations financially, because such law firms tend to be smaller and may charge lower rates, reports the National Law Journal in an article reprinted in New York Lawyer.

“This makes moral sense, and it makes business sense,” said Thomas Sager, senior vice president and general counsel of DuPont, during a press conference announcing the effort. “Many of these firms are noted for their creativity, resourcefulness and cost-effectiveness,” he noted.
