Above the Law—the blog—is asking its readers to help register its displeasure with CNN for its Above the Law, a series.

Elie Mystal, editor at large for blog publisher Breaking Media, tells the Am Law Daily (sub. req.) his first reaction was anger when he learned about the series title. Then he decided to ask his readers to compete to draft a cease-and-desist letter to send to CNN for alleged trademark infringement.

The CNN series is about government debt collection and legal options to protect yourself.

“If I’m not mistaken, there’s already a well-established brand that covers law and debt and is named ABOVE THE LAW,” Mystal wrote in a post last Thursday at Above the Law.

Case-and-desist contest submissions should include a one-paragraph summary of best arguments that “is dripping with Above the Law-ness,” Mystal writes. The writer should also describe himself or herself and how long it would take to write the letter. Writers may also include an optional description of the blog’s case in a single meme or gif “because that would be awesome.”
