The Oregon State Bar has assumed control of a personal injury law firm after receiving 19 complaints against the lawyer who runs it.

A Deschutes County judge gave the bar control of the Bend-based law firm operated by Bryan Gruetter after reviewing client complaints, OPB News reports. The clients had submitted affidavits stating they had not received settlement money.

Gruetter said in a statement that he recently completed a residential treatment program and he’s cooperating in the investigation.

The story quotes state bar spokeswoman Kateri Walsh, who said staffers are taking inventory of client files and accounting records. “Ultimately we will make a decision about what is there and how to appropriately manage the money,” she said.
