With the expected publication date of the latest law school rankings by U.S. News & World Report looming, some bloggers are jumping the gun by claiming to have advance word of this year's sure-to-be-controversial list.

And, to back up their claims, they are providing photocopied pages of the 2010 law school rankings allegedly leaked from the magazine's May 2009 issue and, it would appear, the latest U.S. News hard-copy guide to the nation's best graduate schools.

Both the Critical Badger (which shows a purported actual page of the magazine's May 2009 rankings) and a link provided by Blackbook Legal Blog (which shows a purported actual color photograph of the same list, albeit in a slightly different format), also appear to show the same law schools in the same ranking order for at least the first 50. The Critical Badger version is especialy fuzzy in spots, however.

Other bloggers also are weighing in on the topic. But it remains to be seen whether anyone but U.S. News has the actual annual law school rankings for 2010 right now.

That question will soon be answered: The official rankings are scheduled to be published by U.S. News later this week, notes Above the Law. The law blog contacted U.S. News, which declined to comment about the allegedly leaked 2010 law school rankings.

For those who are interested, both the above-cited reproductions and, in a typewritten list provided by a poster on the Top-Law-Schools message board list the same 50 law schools in the same order.

At the absolute top, Yale Law School, Harvard Law School and Stanford Law School, they say, are in first, second and third place, respectively, in the official U.S. News rankings.

Is that really correct? We should know for sure soon.
