A public administrator representing the estate of copper heiress Huguette Clark filed too late in an effort to recover some $4 million in gifts she made to the New York City hospital in which she spent the final 19 years of her life, a state court judge has ruled.

However, Judge Nora Anderson allowed another Manhattan Surrogate Court case seeking reimbursement for $3.6 million in gifts to two doctors and a nurse to go forward, the New York Times (reg. req.) reports. Clark, who died in 2011 at age 104, left hundreds of millions of dollars in assets.

At issue in both cases was whether Clark lacked mental capacity to make appropriate decisions about the gifts.
