Forced to abandon his farm due to a mortgage foreclosure action, a Rhode Island farmer says he was assured by Wells Fargo Bank that his animals would be cared for.

But after seeing strangers walk off with some animals and hearing that remaining horses and pigs apparently hadn’t received water since he was forced from Bonniedale Farms on Monday, Dan MacKenzie says he plans to ask a state court judge today to order the bank to take care of them, reports the Providence Journal.

Meanwhile, the state veterinarian has put the bank’s eviction representative in touch with local students in the Glocester area who are willing to take care of the animals, the newspaper reports.

Attorney Guy Settipane represents MacKenzie.

The article doesn’t include any comment from the bank.
