The former county attorney from northern Florida’s Dixie County was sentenced in federal court today to 87 months in prison.

Chief U.S. District Judge Stephan P. Mickle rebuked Joseph “Joey” Lander for “lying and stealing” from his clients, the Gainesville Sun reports.

Lander, who faced trial last October, was convicted of money laundering and mail fraud in the case, which involved a start-up vitamin company and two land developments.

Investors were reportedly bilked out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. In another Gainesville Sun report, Lander was identified as a former Dixie County attorney, who was also co-owner of a weekly newspaper, maintained a private law practice and had formed GenSpec Labs, a private company based in Cross City.
