Former Milberg partner William Lerach, imprisoned after pleading guilty to paying kickbacks to lead plaintiffs in class actions, has been moved to a halfway house.

Lerach was transferred to the halfway house a couple months ago and has served most of his two-year sentence, according to Reuters. He is expected to be released on March 8.

A source told Reuters that Lerach has a job in the halfway house and is eligible for furloughs.

Lerach was transferred from a prison camp in California to an Arizona prison after offering a prison guard his season tickets to San Diego Chargers games. His plea agreement called for the prison term and payment of $8 million in restitution.

I’ve often wondered, “halfway to where”?  Anyway, it is good he has a job in the halfway house, so he will have some non-legal job experience for his new resume.

B. McLeod—I suspect that Lerach’s stashed-away loot, even after all the fines, will keep him fat and happy for life after prison without having to return to work as a law clerk.
