Fun Isn’t on the Agenda at Sonnenschein Vegas Meeting

More than 300 partners and counsel at Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal are headed to Las Vegas for a retreat this week, but the meeting is strictly business.

In light of the economy, no recreational activities are planned, firm chairman Elliott Portnoy told the Am Law Daily. Instead, lawyers will have a full schedule of business meetings and strategy sessions.

Sonnenschein, which recently added about 100 lawyers from Thacher Proffitt & Wood, saw a drop in profits per partner last year of more than 12 percent, the Am Law Daily says. Gross revenue, though, was up 2.9 percent.

Above the Law notes the trip. “At first, we imagined the partners cruising through the desert in convertibles, sitting around the roulette table gambling away their [partner profits], lounging in Rainman suites, and getting all spa'ed up,” the blog says. “Not so, says a source within the firm. It's a scaled-back partners' meeting, not a retreat.”

I’m sure it will still prove an excellent week for the Vegas call girls.
