A former Ohio lawyer who admitted faking her kidnapping has been sentenced to four years in prison for stealing money from client trust accounts.

Karyn McConnell Hancock admitted taking more than $624,000 from 23 clients, the Toledo Blade reports. She pleaded guilty to aggravated theft last November. Several of the victims have filed lawsuits against Hancock, who gave up her law license last January.

Investigators believe the actual amount stolen may be $389,000 because McConnell Hancock paid back some of the money with other accounts, the Blade says.

Last April, McConnell Hancock was sentenced to probation and fined $300 for the false kidnapping claim.
