More professional workers are turning to moonlighting, whether it’s because of furloughs, pay cuts of fear of layoffs, and lawyers are among those holding down two jobs.

The Wall Street Journal highlights the trend. The story refers to a survey by CareerBuilder.com that found about 9 percent of mostly white-collar workers surveyed had taken a second job in the past year to make ends meet. Nineteen percent said they planned work a second job in 2010.

The story also quotes the founder of PeoplePerHour.com who said lawyers, accountants, marketers and other professionals are seeking work on the website, double the amount in the past year.

The story notes problems with white-collar moonlighting, including conflicts of interest and demanding hours that “can stretch the workweek to exhausting lengths.”
