One of New Jersey’s biggest law firm names has confirmed that it will be canceling its 2010 summer program.

And McCarter & English will also be bumping back the start date for incoming first-year associates to Dec. 1, 2009, Eric Wiechmann tells Above the Law. He is the managing partner of the 400-attorney northeastern and mid-Atlantic regional firm.

However, given the state of the legal economy, the ATL post says, having one’s start date postponed only a few months is almost good news.

Meanwhile, an unidentified “spokesperson” for McGuireWoods tells ATL that the 900-attorney Virginia-based international firm is “likely to reduce the number of offices in which we have our summer programs,” although no definite decision has been made concerning the offices that may be affected.
