Nevada’s new governor, former federal judge Brian Sandoval, has hired a former law clerk to serve as his general counsel.

But Lucas Foletta is licensed only in California and hasn’t yet taken the Nevada bar exam, reports Corporate Counsel.

He has, however, been licensed to practice on a limited basis in the state, effective Jan. 4, under a rule that applies to government attorneys and in-house lawyers.

“It is my understanding Lucas may sit for the bar this year, but with Legislative session, we can’t be sure,” the governor’s press secretary tells the legal publication in an e-mail.
