A Georgia prosecutor is opposing a defendant’s request to change his name to Saint Jody Almighty Bedrock.

The defendant, Shelby Marwan Hegg, is accused of aggravated battery, but he says the name change idea is legit: It’s based on his religious reawakening, according to the Associated Press and the Macon Telegraph.

”I wanted a name that everybody would know when they were talking to me that they were talking to a man of God,” Heggs told the Telegraph.

Bibb County prosecutor John Regan opposes the request, saying it may be an attempt to hide past convictions for DUI and marijuana possession.

The AP story begins this way: “Shelby Marwan Heggs of Macon admits he’s been a sinner, but hopes his past won’t keep a judge from allowing him to become a Saint.”
