A Los Angeles County, Calif., assistant district attorney has agreed to pay $1.2 million to settle a lawsuit against her that stemmed from a car crash involving two women and charges of driving drunk.

The settlement was reached the same day as a Los Angeles jury awarded more than $1 million in compensatory damages to the two victims who suffered injuries when the defendant, Marilyn Seymour, rear-ended them near Long Beach, Calif., the National Law Journal reprinted in New York Lawyer (reg. req.) reports.

Seymour had a blood-alcohol level of more than three times the legal limit, according to the complaint. The settlement avoids a second trial on potential punitive damages.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles district attorney’s office declined to comment on the case, but did confirm that Seymour remains employed there.
