Maurer School of Law

Indiana University Maurer School of Law recently received a $7.7 million bequest from alumni Milt Stewart and his wife, Judi.

A retired mergers and acquisitions partner with Portland’s Davis, Wright & Tremaine, Stewart graduated from the law school in 1971, according to Indiana Lawyer. The money will benefit an endowment and a professorship with the law school’s Center of the Global Legal Profession, and be renamed the Milt and Judi Stewart Center on the Global Legal Profession, Indiana Daily Student reports.

“My law school education made it possible for me to have a successful and rewarding practice in the global legal profession,” Stewart said in a press release. “This gift enables me to repay the school in some small way for the success I have had, and, I hope, expose future students to the opportunities available to global lawyers.”

The couple also funds the Stewart Fellows global externship program, which since 2010 has covered more than 100 students’ summer externships.
