Dallas attorney Tom Melsheimer has been honored by the Green Bag Almanac & Reader for writing a “dagger of a brief” on behalf of Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

The summary judgment motion was drafted in response to claims by Ross Perot Jr. and Hillwood Investment Properties that Cuban had mismanaged the team, according to a press release. The brief was filed just days after the Mavericks won Dallas’ first NBA championship. The kicker? The motion also included a large photo of Cuban and members of the Mavericks celebrating with the championship trophy, a move Melsheimer says was a “no-brainer.”

The lawsuit was dismissed in November, and the motion will be highlighted in the 2012 edition of the Green Bag Almanac & Reader. The issue will also honor Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. and Associate Justice Elena Kagan for their excellence in legal writing. A full list of winners is available here.
