Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner would like to find a suitable merger partner.

Thelen informed its lawyers and staffers that it would like to pursue a merger in an internal memo last week, spokesman Kevin Livingston told the Recorder. The blog Above the Law was the first to break news of the memo.

The new merger stance follows news that four more partners are leaving the law firm. The departing team of project development and finance partners is headed by Mark Weitzel. Sources told the Recorder they will join Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.

About 50 lawyers have left Thelen since March, not including the 26 associates who were laid off that month, the story says.

Livingston said such departures aren’t unusual after a merger. Thelen is the product of a 2006 merger between Thelen Reid & Priest and Brown Raysman Millstein Felder & Steiner.
