The San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has decided to save money by canceling next year’s conference after two U.S. senators criticized the court for holding this year’s meeting in Maui.

Next year’s conference was to be held in Monterey, Calif., according to a press release. The date will be pushed back to 2014. How Appealing and the Trial Insider have the news.

The press release cites fiscal concerns as the motive, but does not refer to the Maui criticism. “The postponement responds to the current budget constraints facing the federal judiciary and the federal government in general,” the press release says.

Republican Senators Jeff Sessions and and Charles Grassley had criticized the circuit for holding this year’s meeting “at a spa and resort in Hawaii.” On Friday, they asked the circuit to cancel the Hawaii conference, the Hill’s Floor Action Blog reports. The conference is being held at the Hyatt Regency Maui where rooms range from $230 to $250 a night.
