After 44 years at Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, name partner Mike Ciresi is leading a three-partner team to another Minneapolis law firm.

They will leave Feb. 1 to form Ciresi & Conlin, reports the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

A former firm chairman who now heads RKMC’s business litigation group, Ciresi is credited with winning some $12 billion for clients over the years. Now known as an intellectual property and business litigator, he started at RKMC before he graduated from law school.

“The feeling of comfort and convenience is always overcome by challenge and the unknown,” he told the business publication, explaining that the split was amicable but he wanted more freedom to represent a broad range of clients and pursue charitable work. “You broaden yourself by always aspiring to do something new.”

Initially, the new firm will have as many as seven attorneys, Ciresi said.

RKMC has more than 230 attorneys on its roster in six offices in Atlanta, Boston, Naples, Florida, Los Angeles, Minnesota and New York.
