Alaska Lawmakers Release ‘Troopergate’ Report Criticizing Gov. Sarah Palin

After meeting in closed session for much of the day, an Alaska legislative committee released an investigative report concluding that Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power by trying to get her former brother-in-law fired from his job as a state trooper.

The report states that "Gov. Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," according to CNN.

"The bipartisan Legislative Council, which commissioned the investigation after (state public safety commissioner Walt) Monegan was fired, unanimously adopted the 263-page public report after a marathon executive session Friday," the news agency writes. "About 1,000 more pages of documents compiled during the inquiry will remain confidential," according to the council's chairman, state Sen. Kim Elton.

Lawmakers considered four options, according to CBC News: "Release the lengthy report, recommend the case be closed, have another committee continue to probe the matter, or hand it over to criminal investigators."

"Lawmakers closed the session because the report was considered attorney work product," notes the Associated Press, in an article written before the report was made public.

As discussed in previous ABAJournal.com posts, the so-called Troopergate controversy centers on whether Palin abused her authority by firing the state public safety commissioner after he allegedly resisted pressure from the governor's office to fire her former brother-in-law, who continues to work as a state trooper. The issue took on national import after Palin was selected as the Republican nominee for vice president.

As usual, they are PENALIZING Mrs. Pelin because she is a WOMAN, and the man is trying to put her DOWN.  Fooey on these MEN for being such meanies.

Agiain, this is VERY unfair to WOMEN who are trying to get a head.  I do NOT know why everytime a woman gets into the spotlight, there are many MEN (here troopergates) who are taking pootshots at her.

Now I don’t know if I will vote for her for Vice President, but I think this is BAD that they are making all this up right before the election.

My Boyfriend says that this is all part of dirty politics and that I should EXPECT this.  Well, mabye I should, and mabye I should not.  This is AMERICA, where all men (BUT NOT WOMEN) are created equal.  My boyfriend AGREES with me on this, too.

I did NOT hear about the Man Vice President candidate, who is BIDEN, getting into trouble.  Why only Pelin?  Because she is a WOMAN trying to get out of Alaska, which is VERY cold and bitter in the winter.  Thats why.

I vote to BAN all mudslinking until after the new Election is over.  There should NOT have to be another SUPREME court ruling on that, too.

I have to agree with Ellen this time.  Look at this sexist shot.  Who cares about Palin’s legs other than SEXIST Men?

I hardly think we would a similar picture between Biden’s legs.

I am a male, and I could not care any less about Palin, her legs or any other part of her.  She is a hockey mom,  but not a vice president.  Why do we insist on making these average nobody’s into political figures.  This woman belongs back in the home, with her 5 kids.  They need better direction than she has been able to provide thus far.  The 17 year old girl is already pregnant, while the mom was out politicking.  Oy vey!

Well, I disagree.  There is clearly a reasonable concern here that Palin may not have been able to distance herself properly from such a volatile situation.  Since the state public safety commissioner refused to fire Palin’s ex-brother-in-law from his position as a trooper, Palin could have been tempted to retaliate against the commissioner.  Hey, we’re all human, and perhaps it was difficult to be objective this time around.

Or, maybe Palin just hates MEN!  After all, WOMEN have been held down for FAR too long by SEXIST bosses, CORRUPT government officials, and BOYFRIENDS!  Driven by all that IRE, all she could do was take an EMOTIONAL stab at the commissioner, who is a MAN.  In fact, the problems of Palin’s EX-brother-in-law (also a MAN!) are NONE of her BUSINESS.  Whether or not she likes the guy, she has a RESPONSIBLILTY as an ELECTED OFFICIAL to fairly execute the DUTIES of her OFFICE, not abuse her power running around on some personal VENDETTA!  She should take STOCK of her situation rather than PUNISH innocent MEN for past OUTRAGES she has suffered!
