A Connecticut judge has set bail at $1.2 million for Michael Skakel, whose 2002 conviction for killing a 15-year-old neighbor in 1975 was overturned last month because of ineffective representation at trial.

Skakel, the nephew of Ethel and Robert F. Kennedy, will have to wear a GPS tracking device as he awaits a new trial, CNN reports. Judge Gary White of Stamford set the bail on Thursday, according to CNN and the New York Times.

Now 53, Skakel has been in prison for 11 years for the 1975 murder of a 15-year-old neighbor, Martha Moxley. Skakel, who was 15 at the time of the slaying, says he is innocent.

Last month a judge ruled that Skakel’s trial lawyer, Mickey Sherman, “was in a myriad of ways ineffective.”

Skakel and his family have “spared no expense” in its efforts to overturn the conviction and the case has “drained the family fortune,” the New York Times reported in a story published on Tuesday.
