A law school graduate who once worked for a large law firm is one of 10 finalists competing to become a work advice columnist.

Writing about herself for the Washington Post contest, Cindy Coe says she gave up BigLaw after realizing she was juggling too many responsibilities. “The weight of job, marriage and kids crushed me into a pile of smoldering ash,” she says. “Decided something had to give after a frenzied Airport Baby Exchange, with my husband handing me the kids as I returned from a business trip as he left for one.”

As part of the contest, Coe gives her responses to a couple reader questions. One asks about a boss who keeps misusing a common word in conversations with customers. Coe says the employee could try using the word correctly in conversations with the boss. If he doesn’t get the hint, the employee should tell the boss she thought the word was pronounced differently.

“If you were promising to boost your customers’ profit margarines, you’d want someone to stop you, right?” Coe says.
