New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg showed up for jury duty yesterday and answered voir dire questions for an asbestos case. He wasn’t selected.
Judge Helen Freedman said Bloomberg would be treated like any other juror, the New York Post reports. When asked if he would take over deliberations if chosen, he said he would be “one voice out of six, but I’ve got a strong personality.”
Bloomberg and his press secretary were the only people in the jury room wearing suits, the New York Times reports. He arrived with security and press aides and signed autographs.
Jury duty is “part of democracy,” he told reporters. “Makes you feel pretty good.”
