The Snark humor columnist is asking readers to vote on the 2009 BigLaw Word of the Year.

Some of the contenders reflect the difficult year for associates and the changes they are facing, as the Snark makes clear in the column for the Fulton County Daily Report. There is “merit” as in merit-based compensation, and “defer” as in deferred raises, deferred bonuses and deferred partnership decisions.

Then there is the very simple word “no,” the frequent answer to question such as: Will there be a holiday party this year? Will there be pay raises? Will there be bonuses?
