A Chicago police officer, celebrated for writing the most DUI tickets in Illinois, is seeing his record blemished.

Some 50 of his DUI cases have been dropped because improper procedures were followed, the Daily Southtown reports.

The paper reports that John Haleas, who has been honored three of the past five years for writing up the most DUIs in the state, has been disciplined, but remains on active duty.

Prosecutors were alerted to problems during a “ride-along” this spring. The state’s attorney along for the ride witnessed Haleas fail to do follow a number of procedures, including not administering field sobriety tests or warning drivers of the consequences of refusing a Breathalyzer.
