Dewey & LeBoeuf is acquiring a group of 10 restructuring lawyers from Hennigan Bennett and Dorman, including an experienced municipal bankruptcy practitioner.

The group of five partners, three associates and two counsel includes Bruce Bennett, a name partner and one of the co-founders of Hennigan Bennett, according to the Am Law Daily and the New York Times DealBook blog. The Wall Street Journal’s Deal Journal has the press release.

Bennett is known for his experience in municipal bankruptcies, including that of Orange, Calif., the country’s largest municipal bankruptcy. “The municipal debt market is huge,” Bennett tells the Am Law Daily, “and there are a number of issuers facing more financial stress than they’ve ever experienced before.”

Bennett joins another high-profile lateral at Dewey, Martin Bienenstock, who left Weil, Gotshal & Manges in 2007. He told the Am Law Daily that Bennett adds to a “deep bench” of bankruptcy expertise at Dewey.

Bennett will work in Dewey’s Los Angeles office along with eight other lawyers on the team. The other lawyer will work in San Francisco.
