A diversified practice and a fortuitous geographic location in a city that hasn’t suffered as much economically as many are among the reasons why a 42-lawyer Denver firm has been hiring litigation partners as BigLaw shops throughout the country make headlines for firing attorneys and staff.

Although corporate work has slowed down at Fairfield and Woods, its litigation practice is booming, reports the National Law Journal.

And, because the firm has opted against exponential growth when the economy was hot, downsizing isn’t required when it’s not, says managing partner Caroline Fuller.

“Overnight growth has never been a goal of the firm, which has stayed relatively small by choice,” the legal publication writes. “It has passed on merger offers from other Denver firms, as well as offers to become the Denver office of national firms.”
