Duane Morris has hired a new marketing director and restructured its business development and marketing staff.

Seven staffers lost jobs in the restructuring, but three senior executives were hired, chief marketing officer Ed Schechter told Incisive Media. The team now has 30 to 35 people. Most of the staffers who lost their jobs were in Philadelphia.

One of the new hires is Susan Shallcross, who is leaping from Arnold & Porter to become the law firm’s new marketing director, the story says. The firm also has a new business development manager and a new marketing manager.

The aim was to build a more experienced and leaner team, Schechter told the publication. Cost-cutting was a secondary consideration, he said. Spending on marketing and business development functions is expected to continue to be set at around 2.5 percent of the firm’s annual revenue. Some special projects will be outsourced.

Staff was able to be cut due to the creation of a client-relations management system, Schechter said.
