Former Sexting DA Claims Immunity from Civil Suit by Domestic Abuse Victim
A former Wisconsin district attorney contends he is immune from a civil suit filed by a domestic abuse victim who claims his sexually suggestive texts violated her constitutional rights to due process and equal protection.
Former Calumet County District Attorney Ken Kratz filed his response Friday to the civil suit by Stephanie Van Groll in Milwaukee federal court, according to the Post-Crescent. He is seeking dismissal of the case.
Kratz sent more than 30 texts to the woman, including this one: “I’m the attorney. I have the $350,000 house. I have the six-figure career. You may be the tall, young, hot nymph, but I am the prize.” Another message read, “Are you the kind of girl that likes secret contact with an older married elected DA … the riskier the better?”
Kratz says his actions were taken in furtherance of his official duties, and the suit mischaracterizes the text messages.
