A former prosecutor and seasoned New York criminal defense attorney has been charged with witness tampering for allegedly trying to talk a woman out of testifying before a grand jury about a 2008 murder in which his client was the accused.

Mitchell Golub, 57, arrived in handcuffs for his Manhattan Supreme Court arraignment today, according to DNAinfo.com and the New York Post.

He pleaded not guilty today and his lawyer, Michael Marinaccio, said there is “absolutely no merit” to the case and predicted that it will go to trial.

Golub has been an attorney for more than 30 years. He is no longer representing the defendant in the underlying criminal case, Jesus Alejandro.
