A prominent blogger has made his predictions on possible U.S. Supreme Court nominees under a Democratic president.

Supreme Court litigator Tom Goldstein says possible candidates include several appellate-level judges and even Sen. Barack Obama of Ilinois, according to Legal Times.

Goldstein, of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, suggests on his SCOTUSblog that Justice David H. Souter, who misses his native New Hampshire, will be the next justice to leave the court. Goldstein says that if the next president is a Democrat, he or she will strongly consider female and minority nominees and will be looking for someone who is relatively young.

Goldstein suggests possible nominees are Judges Johnnie Rawlinson and Kim Wardlaw of the 9th Circuit, Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears of the Georgia Supreme Court, and Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the 2nd Circuit.
